Ray Quincy has become a prisoner of war on his family vacation.
Shipwrecked on a small South Pacific island, Ray now spends his days
toiling in the hot equatorial sun, building a runway for an airforce
that no longer exists.
His wife has long ago left him for his captor, Akira. And today
his son has stopped speaking English with him.
Such is life on Akira’s Island...
Akira has lost track of time - he still thinks it’s WWII. And Ray now
tracks the passage of time through his son’s height.
Time is passing fast now.
His wife is pregnant and will soon be having babies to grow
Akira’s Army. More troubling - she is pregnant not by him.
Returning every night to a dead Same Fish on a bowl of rice inside
his bamboo cage, which is shorter than he is tall, Ray often finds himself wondering which will end first: his life, the runway, or the grueling confessions his wife forces him to make... |
